The Bell Room Historical Gallery

Located on the second floor of the Charles E. Whittaker courthouse, the Bell Room Historical Gallery is named for the 4,000-pound, bronze bell that came from Kansas City’s very first federal courthouse at 9th and Walnut.

The gallery,  a collaboration between the court and its historical society, was inspired by Professor Lawrence H. Larsen’s book “Federal Justice in Western Missouri”, and took more than 15 years to plan and design .

The Bell Room tells the history of the people whose lives were changed here and the decisions that have shaped and will continue to shape life in the Western District.

This exhibit is open to the public free of charge. If you would like to schedule a tour, please contact Sherry Cleveland at 816-512-5016 or sherry_cleveland@mow.uscourts.gov.
