CJA Luncheon on CLE Program
The Western District of Missouri hosted its 2nd Annual CJA Luncheon in Kansas City on June 3, 2009, for appointed attorneys and those desiring to be appointed for defendants under the Criminal Justice Act. Over 50 attorneys participated and enjoyed lunch from Jack Stack Bar-B-Que. The purpose of the luncheon was to thank attorneys for their continued support of the CJA program and offer the opportunity for free CLE credit.
Opening remarks were made by Chief Judge Fernando J. Gaitan, Jr., Ann Thompson, Court Executive, Magistrate Judge John T. Maughmer, and Magistrate Judge Sarah W. Hays. After a great lunch, Ian Lewis from the Federal Public Defender's Office in Springfield, made a CLE presentation which included an 8th circuit update as well as discussion of Arizona v. Gant. Teresa Harrison of the Clerk's Office then updated attendees on CJA payment and voucher issues.
Further remarks were shared by Federal Public Defender, Raymond C. Conrad, Jr., and CJA Liaison, P.J. O'Connor. Ann Thompson closed by thanking everyone for making this year's luncheon a great success.
